Bird Walks
Date: Every Wednesday morning Time: 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Meet at the River Center for a weekly walk to see and hear the birds of the lower Dungeness riparian forest. Information from these on-going walks helps us understand the annual cycle of the birds of Railroad Bridge Park.

Dungeness River Management Team

The experts and informed public groups that oversee the management of the Dungeness River, meet monthly at the Dungeness River Audubon Center.
Natural Science Study Group
Date: 2nd Monday of each month; Time: 10 a.m. to noon.
This adult discussion group focuses on the most interesting aspects of the natural world that affect the north Olympic Peninsula, including climate, weather, rivers, geology, botany, and wildlife. Discussion topics vary with group interests. Come add your two cents and gain some knowledge at the same time.
Sequim-Dungeness Christmas Bird Count
Date: Mon., Dec. 15. Time: All day
Fee: $5 per person
it’s time to count the birds! You can help by covering a special route, joining another group, or by just counting your neighborhood or backyard. Contact Bob Boekelheide at the River Center (681-4076) to sign up for the count. Our official tally and annual chili feed for counters takes place at the River Center beginning at 5 p.m.
OPAS Field Trip: Bird our Local Shores
Date: Saturday, Jan. 10 Time: 8:30 a.m.
Why go out in the dead of winter? Because our loons, grebes, alcids, scoters, Goldeneyes and other waterfowl at this time of year are the best in the
country. Plus, this is the time to seek out any rarities out on the water. Meeting place: Dungeness Landing Park (aka the Oysterhouse) Bring: Optics (spotting scope is desirable), water, lunch. Dress for cold and inclement weather. A plus is that you are never far from your warm car. Further information: Dave Jackson 360-683-1355.
OPAS Monthly Meeting

Winter Birds of the North Olympic Peninsula
Dates: Six Thursdays, Jan. 22 to Feb. 2 Time: 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Cost: River Center Partners: $40; non-members: $60
This is an intermediate birding class to learn identification, natural history, and ecological preferences of the birds of the north Olympic Peninsula in winter. We will include field trips to local habitats; weather permitting, we will be outside nearly every session. Limit 16 people.
